10 Morning Routine Habits For A Happier Start To Your Day

Each morning is the opportunity for a new beginning. How we spend our morning sets the tone of our day. In our modern world many of us spend our mornings rushing around, feeling frazzled, which can cause anxiety and stress. However, there may be a cure, cue the morning routine. Establishing a morning routine can result in more productivity throughout your day, lower stress levels and increased energy. Many of the world's most successful celebrities swear by their morning routines, think Oprah, Richard Branson and Tony Robbins to name but a few…

What is a morning routine?
A morning routine is simply a set of habits that are performed daily as part of a ritual when you wake up. The best part about building your morning routine is that you can choose habits that you love and that leave you feeling high vibe for the rest of the day.

If you are looking to start a morning routine, or simply shake up your existing one, find inspiration in our ten morning routine habits below to help kick start a healthier, happier you.

1 -  Make your bed

Even though it may seem like a very mundane task, completing the simple act of making your bed allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment first thing in the morning. Achieving this small win then sets the stage for more productivity throughout the day.

2 - Go phone free

It can be so tempting to spend the morning scrolling through social media, emails or the news. However, science has proved that starting the day in this way can be responsible for triggering our stress response. Instead, why not try turning your phone on aeroplane mode before bed, or charging it in a different room to avoid temptation.

3 - Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that can help to overcome negative self-talk and limiting beliefs. When you make a habit of repeating affirmations to yourself daily it helps to boost your self-confidence. An example of an affirmation could be “I believe in myself and my capabilities” or “I am strong and powerful”. Choose affirmations that resonate with you. To supercharge the effects of this habit, spray our crystal infused Space Mists while repeating your affirmations.

4 -  Meditation

Starting your day with meditation can result in you feeling more focused, content and optimistic throughout the day. If you are new to meditation, start with as little as five minutes a day. There are many styles of meditation to choose from, guided meditations can be a great place to start for beginners. There are millions of free guided meditations that can be found on YouTube.

5 -  Exercise

Exercising first thing in the morning is great for boosting your energy and for kickstarting your metabolism. By releasing endorphins it also creates a happier start to your day. Find an exercise you love to help keep you motivated. To help you stay on track, lay your workout clothes out the night before to help encourage you in the morning.

6- Plan Your Day

Utilise your brain and plan your day first thing in the morning before it becomes cluttered with distractions. Having a well-organised plan can help you achieve your goals. Plan both your personal and professional life to ensure you are achieving your aims in both of these areas. To get started you can use our free Daily Planner and Self Care Habit Tracker

7 - Gratitude

Starting your day being grateful for what you have leads to an overall happier mindset. Try keeping a gratitude journal and writing in it 10 things you are grateful for every morning. It may feel difficult at first to think of ten things as our brains tend to be wired to focus on the negative more than the positive, but over time this practice will get easier.

8 - Reading

Reading a good book first thing in the morning results in feeling inspired and motivated. If you choose to read a self-development book you may even find great insights which you can implement into your day. Even reading for 15minutes a day can have a hugely positive impact on your life.

9 - Hydrate

While you sleep your body typically goes six-eight hours without any water consumption. This can result in feeling sluggish and dehydrated first thing in the morning. Your brain is made up of around 75% water so ensuring you drink 1 - 2 glasses of water after waking up helps your brain to function at its optimal level.

10 - Listen to music

Studies have shown that listening to uplifting music first thing in the morning will help to reduce stress. Create a playlist with your favourite calming tunes if you want to create a peaceful start to your day. Or have a playlist on standby with your favourite inspiring tunes to cultivate a more energetic start.
